The Senate approved Wednesday a joint resolution increasing the subsistence allowance of all officers and enlisted personnel of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) from P90 to P150 per day or a new increase of P60 daily.
Senate President Franklin Drilon said the increase also covers the Philippine National Police (PNP), the Philippine Coast Guard, Bureau of Fire Protection and the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP).
Multiplying P60 with the 150,000 AFP and the 120,000 PNP in one year (or 365 days) alone, the government would have to appropriate a total of P5.9 billion.
The Senate joint resolution (No. 2) authored by Sen. Antonio F. Trillanes IV stated that, in so far as the AFP is concerned, the AFP and the Department of National Defense (DND) shall promulgate and issue the rules and regulations necessary to implement the move.
A member of the staff of Trillanes said that the Senate awaits the passage by the House of Representatives of a complementary resolution which, when approved, has the force and effect of a law.
